I&V Paintings

These two pieces were portraits commissioned for friends of mine who just moved to NYC. I’ve drawn both I&V before as babies so to depict them growing up, and to paint them in colour was a lovely challenge and change to the usual work I make.

I’ve tried to incorporate some of I&V’s requests without turning the paintings into full on pink fluffy unicorn / dinosaur scenes - Hence the featured velociraptor pattern shorts, peregrine falcons and cloud leopards. I is starting to grow up and getting really tall, hence the high trees that I wove around him. I also tried to capture a little of the awkwardness that you carry at that age.

V is very on point with her fashion and keen on rainbows, so I built her dress from clouds and beams of purple, blue and pink as she had carefully indicated in my notebook. Actually the pose she made for the painting was so perfect I didn’t want to change or add too much.
