Layered Paintings

These pieces combine a few techniques i've played with over the past few years.

The layering part i’ve been developing via commissions (this being one example) - using laser cutting to make sandwiched, shallow relief type sculptures.

Working in paint allows me to create pieces with intense colour and keep the work hand made despite it being digitally cut - Some recent intense practice and lots of experience as a technician at Sonsoles screenprinting studio has helped with colour mixing, and tuned me in a lot more to colour combination.

So here are my first 'Layered Paintings'. I sketch a design for each one and plot them digitally, breaking the areas down into laser-cuttable layers. They arrive as a package of pieces which I have to paint and glue together in a certain order, a sort of creative puzzle with a new artwork at the end. Since I can cut the material with the same design repeatedly, i'm making each design as an editions of ten, and trying different approaches with colour every time.
