The John Roan

I’m currently working on an artwork with Bow Arts for The John Roan - a secondary school which is located right on the edge of Greenwich Park in southeast London.

Over the course of two days earlier this year I worked with a group of year 7’s there, to think about how the values of the school might be pictured. The resulting design (working title: Starcatchers) combines a few of their ideas; The deer, trees and forest are updated elements from the school emblem which relate to the schools’ proximity to Greenwich. The many reflected figure/s which connect the whole picture together symbolise limitlessness. The path they take leads to the sun and stars, in order to represent excellence and striving for it.

The artwork itself is made from laser cut plywood, hundreds of pieces which i’ve been priming, painting and fixing together. It’s a hefty 7 Metres in length, so i’m making it in sections. I’ll be excited to see it in its complete form when it is installed.
